Your name

from FAWM 2019 by The Fishermen & the Priestess

backstage exclusive

I was in the park playing my ukulele, and the first phrase came out of nowhere:

"You never told me how easy it would be to forget you".

It reminded me of someone I dated quickly in college, who was clearly not meant for me, and whose name I don't even remember. I wrote this song thinking of that relationship, with the help of Kim Dowd for the lyrics and rhymes.

You never told me how easy
It would be to forget you
I don't remember your name
All I know is I regret you

I met you one night
When I was lonely
I thought you were right for me
But if only

I was looking for love
Where it isn't meant to be
There was never a story
Of you and me

I wasn't really into you
You didn't like me
I never understood
What we were supposed to be

We weren't really friends
Barely strangers
My heart was at peace
And couldn't see the danger

In trying to find love
Where it's not supposed to be
There was never between us
Any chemistry

I still remember when I saw you for the first time
But I don't think you were ever meant to be mine
We're lost in chances playing love like a game
But I don't think I can remember your name

I don't know when you left my life
I didn't care
If there were tears
I wasn't there

The last time I saw you
You didn't see me
Once more we were strangers
Like we're supposed to be

I stopped looking for love
Where it's not meant to be
So that one day I might set
My heart free
